Board Member - Canadian Liver Foundation (Edmonton)

From 1996 to 1999, Keith had been an active member of the Foundation.  During this time, Keith also offered his professional expertise as Treasurer for the Edmonton Chapter of the Foundation from 1997 to 1999.  The Foundation's goals are to provide education services to the public at large, specific counselling, education and support for those afflicted with liver disease, and to promote and help fund liver disease research in Canada.

For the mandatory maximum term of 1997 to 2001, Keith had been an active member of the Corporation.  He had been the Board Chair for 2000 to 2001.  The Corporation is responsible for the operation and administration of  over 4,400 social housing units in the Edmonton area on behalf of the federal, provincial, and municipal governments. Within the regulations and guidelines of the Alberta Housing Act, the Corporation provides sound, secure and affordable accommodation and management services for persons with a housing need.  The management services are professional and innovative and aim to set the standard in the housing management industry.  The Corporation strives to produce the best possible living environment for its residents in economically and socially integrated communities, which ensuring efficient use of public funds.

Keith was appointed to the board in October, 2002 and currently serves as Secretary-Treasurer.

The Edmonton Housing Trust Fund (EHTF) was established in October of 1999 by the Edmonton Coalition on Homelessness Society to address the growing concern over the availability of affordable housing sufficient to meet the needs of the city of Edmonton’s lower-income and special needs citizens.

The Trust Fund assists a diverse range of people by working with the not-for-profit, and private sector service providers. These service providers, builders, and organizations in turn utilize EHTF funding to help the homeless, renters, low-income individuals in need of long term supportive housing, with an emphasis on serving those most in need.

The Trust Fund is a partnership of all three levels of government, the private and not-for-profit sectors. The Government of Canada through the Homelessness Initiative has signed a contribution agreement with the EHTF for a total of $17.1 million over a three-year period. The Government of Alberta has committed to providing $1 million per year for three years, and the City of Edmonton has contributed $1.3 million dollars for 2000 and is anticipated to contribute a similar amount for each of the next two years.

The EHTF also must raise a significant amount of money from the philanthropic, corporate, and general public to be able to fund all the activities in the Community Plan.
