   Information Technology

Information Technology, in general terms, refers to a collection of products or services that turn data into useful, meaningful, and accessible information. Data itself is generally of little value unless it is formatted and presented in such a way that meaningful and timely decisions can be made. Information Technology is not new, a simple handwritten column of sales numbers manually added together is a form of IT. However, the advent of computers has put IT into the forefront by turning a lot of what people used to do manually into an automated system. In other words, computers have increased the usefulness of the data by expanding the scope of what was not possible to do manually, computers have made data more meaningful by presenting limitless scenarios and data manipulation, and computers have made data more accessible by decreasing the processing time and quickly presenting the results to a wider audience.

My IT perspective is specifically geared towards small business. What works for small business may not work in larger organizations  and vice versa.
