Power Point - The Message Is The Medium
A common practice among business professionals is the use of computers for presenting information to educate and inform an audience. Audiences can be as little as one person or hundreds of persons. The most prevalent computer program used for presentation purposes is Microsoft Power Point.
Those familiar with the program know that typically the methodology used to prepare a presentation begins with a slide show format. Each slide presents an idea or concept. By default, Microsoft assumes that the proper presentation format goes something like this:
In your next Power Point presentation, consider a different format. The one used by Journalists and newspapers around the world. The format would go something like this:
As you can see, the journalistic format somewhat flips the traditional format ordering. It's main objective is to grab the audience's attention first, then bore them with the details.
Either format is valid and can be situational specific. In other words, depending on the topic and audience, one format may be more preferable than the other.
