Back Ups That Don't Work
Disaster will strike, it is only a matter of time. It may come in the form of fire, theft, virus attack, hardware malfunction, or accidental deletion or unintended modification of files or programs. Anything that separates a user from timely access to accurate data is a disaster. Considering the immense pressure from competition, businesses must be prepared to mitigate problems quickly. One such solution is timely, accurate, and effective data backup systems. Click HERE for more discussion.
The number one, most common problem in businesses that implement a back up system is that they don't test it. They don't test the system to ensure timely and accurate recovery is achieved. They don't even test to see if the back up software is working properly.
No back up system is effective unless recovery is timely. Businesses cannot wait days or weeks for data recovery. As well, I have personally seen systems put in place where everyone thought the software was doing it's job and when disaster struck and when a recovery was attempted it was determined that the software was not set up correctly and no data or incorrect data was backed up.
The lesson here is that a system, no matter what it is, is only reliable when it is tested and the results measured.
