Marketing And Promotion
Getting visitors to your website involves more than just creating the site and hoping people show up.
The first step is to register your website with various search engines like Google and Yahoo. Each engine has it's own submission process and requires you to visit each engine web site and submit basic information. There are services that let you submit one application and they will register your website with several search engines. This saves you time but there is a cost associated with this service. If you spend the time, you can easily submit your site to the most popular search engines. Google is arguably one of the most trusted search engines and you should start there. Google has rules to rank your website importance. For example, if other websites list your website in a link, Google will rank your website higher than a competitors website that does not have a link. In this case, part of your strategy would be to get other web sites to provide a link to your website before submitting your request to Google. There are plenty of free local websites that will list your website as a courtesy service.
After the search engine submission, general marketing techniques can be used to promote your site. Your letterhead and business cards should have your web address. You may want to consider email and other communication tools to advertise your site as well. Remember, all decisions in the marketing stage should be part of a feedback loop to your business plan. Your business plan may change or your web strategy may change during the marketing process. Click HERE for a pictorial representation of the feedback mechanism.
