Become An Independent Contractor

 

If you’re currently employed in a job where you have a fair amount of independence from your employer, see if you can change your relationship so that you become an independent consultant rather than an employee. Even though you’ll lose some advantages (like the right to Employment Insurance benefits and probably your pension and drug plans), you’ll enjoy a much wider scope for tax planning if you earn self-employment income.
