Office In Home Expenses - Claim That Deduction

If eligible, the business can deduct certain expenses in maintaining a home office.

If your business is home based, it's obvious that a deduction is warranted. However, in other cases, it still makes sense to make a claim.

For example, a non-commissioned employee may claim a deduction where the employee performs more than 50% of his employment duties in a home office, regardless of the fact the employer also provides a separate office for the employee.

For businesses, even though a home office may not be a principal place of business, a home office used on a regular and continuous basis may qualify for a deduction.

Planning is warranted here and your circumstances should be discussed with a chartered accountant. Contact Keith Anderson CA at (780) 447-5830 if you need advice.
